On this day: PM Modi became Gujarat's Chief Minister for the first time in 2001
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for the first time on October 7, 2001. He has the distinction of being the longest-serving CM of Gujarat with his term spanning from October 2001 to May 2014. In 2014, he was sworn in as India's Prime Minister, becoming the first-ever PM to be born after Independence.
