Onake Obavva, a symbol of Kannada female pride

Onake Obavva, an ordinary woman, displayed extraordinary courage defending Chitradurga fort against Hyder Ali's army in 1779. Armed only with just a onake (a long wooden pestle used to beat paddy), she killed the soldiers one by one, as they tried to infiltrate the fort. Her bravery is honoured and she is considered as the epitome of Kannada female pride.
