One in every five Indians has high cholesterol

Deranged cholesterol levels are more common in our country than we realise. In urban areas, it is reported to be present in 25–30% of the population, while in rural areas, the prevalence is slightly lower, 15–20%. The most common dyslipidemia in India includes borderline high LDL cholesterol, low HDL cholesterol & high triglycerides. Periodically screening for high cholesterol is important.
