Onion prices rise 45%, Centre brings back Kanda Express

The Centre is rolling out Kanda Express trains to curb onion prices after the national average retail rate rose to ₹42 per kg, up 45% from last year and 19% from last month. Buffer-stock onions will be transported from Nashik to Delhi, Chennai, Kochi and Guwahati. Delhi prices have reached ₹65/kg, while onions in Chennai cost around ₹58/kg.
