Only ₹39 trillion of the ₹187 trillion total money deposited in bank accounts, or just around a fifth (20.8%) of total bank deposits in India belongs to women, a government report said. As of March 2023, 36.4% of the 2.52 billion individual accounts belonged to women. In urban areas, only 16.5% or ₹1.9 trillion of total deposits belonged to women.
