A European Council on Foreign Relations survey showed that only 11% of Europeans across 15 countries saw the US as an ally, down from 16% six months ago and 22% in November 2024. The majority doubted the US would defend them in case of an attack. Most respondents also supported reducing reliance on US arms ​in favour of European alternatives.
