Only three disciplines are open to athletes with an intellectual disability in Paralympic Games. These sports are para athletics, para swimming and para table tennis. All the three sports have been part of the Games since the first Games were held in Rome in 1960. Table tennis is the third largest Paralympic sport in terms of athlete numbers.
