OpenAI said it has reached its goal of building a research intern-level AI system and is now working towards developing an automated AI researcher by March 2028. The system can carry out research tasks under human direction that would typically take researchers several days to complete. OpenAI said automated AI research could help advance scientific work and improve human welfare.
