The 1953 Oscar awards ceremony was the first Oscars to be aired on television, 24 years after the first Oscar awards were held in 1929. The ceremony was organised in Hollywood, California and the black and white telecast was reportedly viewed by about 34 million people. Notably, the first Oscar awards ceremony in colour aired in 1966.
