Over 10,000-acre defence land illegally occupied, panel tells SC

Over 10,800 acres of defence land remain illegally occupied, a committee examining encroachment across the country told the Supreme Court. Defence authorities retrieved 2,242 acres of land between 2015 and 2025 from encroachment, the panel said. The panel's report noted that state-wise encroachment figures were highest in four states, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Maharashtra.
