According to a study, the world's oceans are polluted with over 171 trillion plastic particles, equivalent to 2.3 million tonnes of plastic. After analysing the data from nearly 12,000 sampling points, scientists found a "rapid and unprecedented" increase in plastic pollution since 2005. If urgent action isn't taken, entry of plastic into oceans could increase by 2.6 times by 2040.
