Re-verification of over 19 lakh pensioners in Punjab has revealed that at least 65,743 dead people are still registered as beneficiaries of old age pension schemes. Further, over 2,45,000 pensioners are fake, with over 42,000 people who do not meet the age criteria receiving old age pensions. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has ordered a probe into the anomalies.
