Over 9,700 pigs died due to African Swine Fever in Mizoram in 2025

Mizoram suffered a financial loss of ₹114.64 crore in 2025 due to an outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF), which claimed the lives of more than 9,700 pigs across the state, an official of the state's Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department said. While 9,711 pigs died of ASF last year, 3,620 pigs were culled as a preventive measure to stop further spread of the disease.
