Pakistan's fiscal deficit widens to 8.9% of GDP, highest in 28 years

Pakistan's fiscal deficit, the difference between the government's expenditure and revenue, increased to 8.9% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the year ended June, the highest level in 28 years. This comes ahead of the International Monetary Fund's first quarterly review of a $6-billion loan agreement. Prime Minister Imran Khan gave a 7.1% estimate in June.
