Palpitations can also be caused by hypothyroidism, say doctors

Even though frequent heart palpitations are usually associated with a cardiac issue, doctors say it can also be a sign of hypothyroidism, when the thyroid gland produces too little thyroid hormones. This could be because of the condition itself or since hypothyroidism makes your arteries less elastic, thereby increasing blood pressure to circulate blood around your body and causing palpitations.
