Speaking about her being named as Delhi Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta said that when she left home for the party meeting she didn't know that she would become the Chief Minister. "Though media was talking about it, I only came to know when Parvesh Verma proposed my name," she added. Verma was another contender for the Delhi CM post.
