The 163.68 km expressway, being developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is expected to cut travel time between Patna and Bettiah from the current 6 hours to roughly 2.5 hours once completed by 2027. Construction is currently in progress on the first two stretches, covering the route from Bakarpur in the Vaishali district to Manikpur in Muzaffarpur.
