West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee visited Sandeshkhali for the first time after protests over allegations of land grabbing and sexual harassment erupted at the island. Stating that people were misled by offers of money, Banerjee said, "Lies don’t last for long...The truth eventually comes out. Let bygones be bygones." "I want the people of Sandeshkhali to prosper," she added.
