PepsiCo's patent on potato variety grown for Lay's chips revoked by India

The Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers' Rights (PPVFR) Authority has revoked a patent for a potato variety grown exclusively for PepsiCo's Lay's potato chips. The body agreed with activist Kavitha Kuruganti's contention that PepsiCo can't claim a patent over a seed variety. In 2019, PepsiCo sued some Gujarati farmers for cultivating FC5 potato variety, saying they infringed patent rights.
