Peripheral vision is partly brain-generated illusion: Study

What humans see out the corner of their eyes is partly an optical illusion generated by the brain, according to an Amsterdam-based study. The study showed, in certain circumstances, the brain 'fills in blanks' in the visual field outside the area of direct focus, conjuring the illusion of having as much visual information about the periphery as in the centre.
