Petrol pumps threaten return to cash-only payments as ₹5 MDR imposed on UPI payments
The All India Petroleum Dealers Association (AIPDA) has threatened to return to cash-only payments for transactions above a certain threshold after the government imposed a flat ₹5 MDR/transaction on fuel payments via UPI. AIPDA noted that petrol pumps' profits are fixed and thin, meaning the MDR charges will burden them. They demanded that fuel payments be exempted from MDR.
