Physicists at CERN's Large Hadron Collider turned lead into gold, although for only a fraction of a second. They aimed beams of lead at each other, travelling at close to the speed of light. During their high-energy collisions, the electromagnetic field around ions create a pulse of energy, triggering lead nucleus to eject three protons- turning into gold.
