A picture of NGC 2899- a bubble of gas that resembles a butterfly has been captured by astronomers using the European Southern Observatory's (ESO) Very Large Telescope in northern Chile. The 'space butterfly' is located between 3,000 and 6,500 light-years away in the Southern constellation of Vela. NGC 2899's vast swathes of gas can reach temperatures of more than 10,000°C.
