Astrophotographer Andrew McCarthy has captured a picture of Mars using a 14" telescope that shows the northern polar ice cap on the red planet. He took the picture at a time when Mars made its closest approach to Earth. Several people reacted to his photo, with one tweeting, "This is the best Earth-based image of Mars I've ever seen."
