NASA has shared a rare picture of a firework-like red flash above a thunderstorm cloud over Château de Beynac in France. The image, captured by the space agency's Spritacular project participant Nicolas Escurat, one of the "least-understood" electrical phenomena in Earth’s upper atmosphere. The phenomenon, dubbed 'sprites' by scientists, appears moments after a lightning strike.
