Plan to blow up England's Parliament foiled in 1605

A group of Catholic conspirators in England tried to blow up the Parliament on November 5, 1605, to replace the country's Protestant leadership. The 'Gunpowder Plot' was foiled when a conspirator, Guy Fawkes, was discovered in the cellar of the Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder. The plot led to the elimination of the right of Catholics to vote.
