Plane lands by itself without ground systems' help for 1st time

Germany's Technical University of Munich researchers used a newly developed system to land a plane without relying on ground systems at all. The system uses both visible-light and infrared cameras on the nose of the plane to recognise and characterise a runway. However, the technology is still experimental and not ready to be distributed.
