Plant from China identified as carnivorous, supporting Darwin's hypothesis

Scientists have confirmed Saxifraga candelabrum, flowering mountain plant from China, is carnivorous. Charles Darwin had proposed in 1875 two Saxifraga plants could be insect-eating but couldn't prove it experimentally. S candelabrum lures prey onto sticky glandular hairs, digests it using enzyme phosphatase and absorbs nutrients. It's the first confirmed carnivorous plant in Saxifragales group.
