Chinese researchers have converted plant-based lignin waste into a nickel-iron catalyst that boosts the oxygen evolution reaction in water electrolysis. The engineered carbon-fibre structure delivers fast kinetics, strong durability, and low over-potential, offering a low-cost, scalable alternative to precious-metal catalysts and paving the way for cheaper, greener hydrogen production.
