Plastic intake in seabirds on Aussie island hits record: Study

A 16-year study on Australia's Lord Howe Island revealed a sharp rise in plastic consumed by young sable shearwaters, reports stated. Researchers found a fledgling carrying 894 plastic pieces in 2025 and another with 67.4 grams of plastic in 2026. The study linked high plastic ingestion to severe internal scarring, poor body condition, and reduced growth, reports added.
