Pluto's name was given by an 11-year old girl

Pluto was named by an 11-year-old girl Venetia Burney of England in 1930. She suggested the name to her grandfather who then passed it to the research institution Lowell Observatory in the US. Named after the Roman god of the Underworld, Pluto was discovered by American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh.
