In the Lok Sabha, PM Narendra Modi credited ethanol blending in petrol for the reduction in India's oil imports. "We are saving the import of about 4.5 crore barrels of oil every year," he said. He also revealed that if a large-scale railway electrification had not happened, India would have been forced to import additional 180 crore litres of diesel.
