On 31 May 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 7 km section of Line 1 of Kanpur Metro connecting Moti Jheel and Kanpur Central Station. The section features 5 stations- Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central. The inaugurated Line 1 of Kanpur Metro spans 23.785 km from IIT Kanpur to Naubasta.
