A firefighter in the UK underwent open-heart surgery as he developed an infection after he tried to remove a piece of popcorn stuck in his tooth using several objects, including a metal nail. Using the objects had caused a gum infection that spread to his heart. He underwent surgery to replace his heart's aortic valve and repair the mitral valve.
