Power sector costs keep landing on consumers

India’s power capacity rose to 515 GW by late 2025, but The Core reported that fuel, generation and distribution costs are repeatedly passed down to consumers. Deferred costs across major state discoms are close to ₹3 lakh crore, while households and businesses also spend on inverters, UPS systems and diesel generators for reliability.
