Pregnancy hormones can trigger Gingivitis: Expert

During pregnancy, elevated estrogen and progesterone alter gum tissue response to plaque, increasing inflammation and vascular changes in the gums. Dr Saumya Saluja, Periodontal Surgeon, explains, “For expecting mothers, the concern is possible link between gum infections and pregnancy outcomes. Studies suggest that untreated gum disease may increase the risk of early labour or low birth weight.”
