Scientists at BITS Pilani have created a low-cost, animal-free bioink from maize starch, maltodextrin, and sodium alginate. Using semisolid extrusion 3D bioprinting, the hydrogel creates porous skin scaffolds that support >70% human cell survival, as well as customized chewable medicine tablets.
