Public companies in India can have unlimited shareholders

A public limited company must have a minimum of 7 members and can raise capital from the public by issuing shares. These shares are freely transferable and traded on stock exchanges. A private limited company, however, cannot invite public investments and is restricted to a maximum of 200 shareholders.
