Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced that funds given for research and development to Central and state government universities and those who have obtained Income Tax Exemption would be exempted from GST. Around seven educational institutions and universities across India received GST show-cause notices from the DGGI in August, demanding unpaid taxes amounting to ₹220 crore.
