Railway recovers ₹140.81 cr from ticketless passengers after penalty was raised to ₹500

Central Railway recovered ₹140.81 crore in penalties from passengers travelling without valid tickets or proper travel authority between April and August 2026. Its ticket-checking teams recorded 18.03 lakh such cases, averaging around 11,000 penalised passengers and ₹92.03 lakh in daily collections. The figures come after the minimum ticketless travel penalty was raised from ₹250 to ₹500.
