Indian Railways has reduced diesel consumption by 63% over the past decade through an extensive electrification drive. Diesel usage has fallen from about 293 crore litres in 2015-16 to 108 crore litres in 2024-25, generating significant fuel savings and reducing emissions. The initiative supports Railways' net-zero target, improves operational efficiency and lowers dependence on fossil fuels.
