The Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre during the same-sex hearing in the Supreme Court, said the government has written to states on the matter. Rajasthan has opposed same-sex marriage petitioners' stance, Mehta said. He added that Manipur, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam and Sikkim said the issue "needs debate".
