Rajiv Gandhi, born on August 20, 1944, was the youngest Prime Minister in Indian history. He took office immediately following the assassination of his mother, Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984 at the age of 40 years and 72 days. During his tenure, Congress won the 1984 Lok Sabha elections, capturing an overwhelming majority of 404 seats out of 514.
