The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021. The amendment bill, which has already been passed by the Lok Sabha, seeks to enhance the powers of the Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Delhi. Meanwhile, the Opposition staged a walkout from the House to protest the Bill.

Prices of gold and silver hit new all-time highs on Monday as the Indian rupee hit a new record low, making gold imports costlier. The price of 10 grams of gold hit a record high of ₹1,05,937, nearing ₹1,06,000-mark, while 1 kg of silver's price hit a lifetime high of ₹1,24,990. International gold prices are also inching towards record highs.

'Humanity is calling for end to Russia-Ukraine war,' PM Modi tells Putin in China

This comes amid elevated hedging by importers and increased short positions by investors due to the US' 50% tariffs on India. The Supreme Court dismissed a PIL challenging nationwide rollout of 20% ethanol-blended petrol (E20). The plea filed by advocate Akshay Malhotra argued consumers should've option of ethanol-free fuel. Representing the Centre, Attorney General R Venkataramani said, "This petitioner is an Englander...Somebody from outside will dictate what petrol to use? Sugarcane farmers are benefitting from this."

Death toll crosses 600 after earthquake hits Afghanistan

Nearly 622 people were killed after an earthquake of 6.0 magnitude struck eastern Afghanistan on Monday, Reuters reported, citing the Taliban-run Afghan interior ministry spokesperson. Over 1500 people were injured. Authorities said three villages were razed in Kunar. "So far, no foreign governments have reached out to provide support for rescue or relief work," a foreign office spokesperson said.

OpenAI planning massive new data centre in India under Stargate-branded AI infra push: Report

Sam Altman-led OpenAI is planning to build a massive new data centre in India as part of its Stargate-branded AI infrastructure push, which it's now apparently extending to India, Bloomberg reported. OpenAI is currently scouting local partners for the data centre, which will likely have at least 1-gigawatt capacity. Altman may announce the facility during his India visit this month.

SCO nations strongly condemn Pahalgam terror attack in declaration
