In an unexpected twist, robbers who stole director Manikandan's National Award medals had a change of heart. They returned the National Film Award medal and also left an apology note with it. Their gesture undoubtedly touched hearts, and prompted the police to intensify their search. The burglary happened at Manikandan's home in Usilampatti, Madurai district, while he was in Chennai.
