Rare smoke rings are being seen over Mount Etna, an active stratovolcano in Italy, pictures of which have surfaced online. This rare phenomenon is known as volcanic vortex rings. The rings are formed when gaseous mass is released rapidly from a volcanic vent. Volcanologist Boris Behncke shared visuals of the "unprecedented quantities of gas rings", calling it a never-before-seen phenomenon.
