RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra hinted at possibility of government charging for UPI payments in future. Noting that the government is subsidising various players involved in the "public infrastructure" that is UPI, Malhotra said, "Obviously, some costs have to be paid...Someone will have to bear the cost." Government will look at how these costs will be met going forward, he added.
