RBI's gold buying falls to lowest level in 8 years in 2025

The Reserve Bank of India purchased roughly 4 tonnes of gold in 2025, the lowest level in eight years, according to a World Gold Council report. In 2024, the central bank acquired 72.6 tonnes of gold. Despite the slowdown, the RBI's total gold holdings stand at a record 880.2 tonnes, with gold accounting for 16% of its foreign exchange reserves.
