The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has directed telecom operators to begin pilot rollout of the Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) service within a week. Similar to caller ID systems used by third-party apps, CNAP will display the caller's real name on a recipient's screen even if the number isn't saved in their contact list. The move will initially exclude 2G subscribers.
