Rectangular telescope may help spot Earth-like planets easier

A recent study suggests that telescope with rectangular mirror, rather than the circular one used in traditional telescopes, could spot Earth-like planets within 30 light-years in three years. The proposed telescope would measure 20 metres by 1 metre. It can be rotated to align its long axis with different star-planet orientations, allowing comprehensive coverage of potential exoplanet positions.
